Coral is the collective name of thousands of marine species living in shallow and deep sea. Unfortunately, many varieties of coral living in shallow waters, also known as "reef coral", are under threat and endangered due to environmental threats and unsustainable human activity.

The genus of coral that are used in jewellery-making are not endangered and are not reef corals. The coral is harvested by licenced fisheries (it is a highly regulated industry) and collected by divers using a small pick-axe to minimise damage to the environment at depths below 50 metres – dredging with nets is prohibited - and we only supply this type of coral.
