Iolite
Iolite is also known by the mineral name cordierite and is usually found in purplish blue, with an intense violet-blue considered the most desirable colour (and rare). It displays strong pleochrosim (three different colour shades in one stone). Larger eye clean stones are rare. It is untreated. Hardness: 7-7.5 (Mohs).
